What you will learn

Designed for those who have already begun their mokuhanga journey and have some experience of the process; Next Steps offers the chance to refine your technique, build confidence, and push your practice further. This intermediate course will focus on printing techniques using your existing carved blocks, helping you achieve better quality and more consistent results.

You are encouraged to bring your own blocks to work with, whilst Lucy guides you through essential refinements and refreshes your understanding of: Paper selection and dampening for optimal printing conditions, Inking and printing techniques, from flat colour and bokashi (gradation) to goma-zuri (sesame printing) and wood grain effect, Layering and colour control, to bring subtlety and depth to your prints, consistency for the editioning process.

With plenty of hands-on guidance, this workshop is an opportunity to troubleshoot any challenges you may have encountered while practicing, gaining insights and deepening your understanding of this water-based printing method.

"Lucy was friendly and approachable and very patient at explaining the process. I found it very relaxing and peaceful and really enjoyed the process of Mokuhanga."
