Original Prints - Not Reproductions

Printmaking is a unique, eloquent and engaging way of making art.

The  form is often associated with reproducing an 'original'; however most of the artwork at Northern Print has been conceived and made especially as a print. This means that each one can be viewed as an 'original' as it has received the artist's individual care and attention even though it may have always been intended to be part of a multiple edition.

Prints can be drawn with acid and etched into a smoothly polished sheet of copper; they can be created with intensely coloured ink squeezed through a mesh or by cutting into a piece of box wood. They may also be made by none of these traditional methods but an artist's very personal working technique developed over many years.

Either way, creating or owning an original print is an accessible and affordable way to broaden your experience of visual art.
