Sylvia Waltering
I am an artist born in Germany and based in Manchester. My creative practice uses a variety of media, such as photography, printmaking, writing and artist books to explore how we make sense of place and strive to belong.
In my work, abstraction shifts between fluid, expressive gestures and recognisable landscape forms, creating a dynamic space for reimagining and reevaluating our connection to the environment. I draw inspiration from my physical and emotional responses to the environments I encounter.
Influenced by both urban and natural landscapes, my work seeks to create a dialogue between external places and internal emotional landscapes, exploring the complex relationship between mind, body, and place. Through this process, place, materials, and the act of making become active participants, shaping both the work itself and my experience of creating it. This ongoing dialogue between body, material, and environment is fundamental to my creative practice
