In her sparsely abstract works Jo Gorner records the remains of an encounter between herself and the landscape. The works hint at a landscape beyond the physical. With meticulous markings on the surface of the paper her lines are suspended between intention and chance and become a translation of associative thinking, a dialogue between herself and the land.

Jo Gorner is an artist whose restrained, abstract images reflect an experience of remote and wild landscapes, and who works primarily as a printmaker etcher.

Gorner was born in Wigan, Lancashire in 1961 and studied at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, Oxford University and later at Manchester Metropolitan University for her masters, she has been living in Yorkshire since 1991.
