What you will learn

Illustrator and printmaker Janet Dickson will lead you through the process of making a two or three colour reduction lino print. You will start with the development of a suitable image and separate the colour layers. The colour layers will be transferred to the lino block and you will learn how to cut the block and print each layer in sequence. Every new layer is printed on top of the previous one and you will be shown how to line them up, creating a small edition of colourful prints.

"I liked working through a new process in a group and seeing everyone’s very different approaches and results and having someone to ask for advice when things get confusing."

Meet the Tutor

Janet Dickson

Janet studied Graphic Design at Newcastle Polytechnic, now the University of Northumbria, graduating in 1984, working in a graphic design practice before returning to Northumbria as a Senior Lecturer. Her return to printmaking was a gradual but consistent process until her move to rural Northumberland where she now has a studio.

Her background as a graphic designer undoubtedly influences the way Janet works demonstrating a design sensibility to her approach to my printmaking. She is inspired by plants and natural forms but with a genuine love for the process of printmaking itself - the problem solving and ‘craft’ of creating prints and the thrill of 'lifting up the paper', the big reveal.
