Drypoint is an intaglio process similar to etching, but the image is scratched directly onto a plate by hand. The resulting line is softer than an etched line and has a slight fuzziness; tone can be achieved by crosshatching and using specialist tools.
During this one-day course you will learn how to use this versatile technique and be introduced to a variety of different drypoint plates to try out. Experimentation can result in soft subtle lines, deep dark velvety lines (burrs) or energetic lines, making drypoint a highly expressive medium. This course is suitable for beginners or those wishing to refresh their skills. It is an ideal starting point for anyone wanting to become a member of Northern Print and begin to use the studio independently.
"I liked the shared experience of learning with other printers with little experience of drypoint techniques and talking with Alex about the tools we were using."
