Drypoint is a great introduction to the world of intaglio Printmaking. It is a very direct processes where the image is scratched directly into the printing plate. The resulting line is softer than an etched line and has a slight fuzziness; tone can also be achieved by crosshatching and using specialist tools.
Experimentation with this versatile technique can result in soft subtle lines, deep dark velvety lines (burrs) or energetic lines, making drypoint a highly expressive medium.
On this one day course you’ll work on one plate approx. A4 in size. You will learn how you create your image an print it. Then using the same plate you’ll be shown how to work into your image using different tools and how to burnish back into the image bringing back lighter tones. Each stage will be printed and you will take away a series of prints from as each change is made.
While the course is suitable for beginners in drypoint it would be good to have some experience in a printmaking process.
