In the dark field 8
In this series of vibrant monotypes we might discern motifs derived from natural forms yet at the same time the colours and marks that Suzuki uses conjure up the less tangible aspects of the natural world: the falling away of the breeze, the sense of a plant coming into being, how the turn of the wind or direction of light shapes growth. The swift gestures and choreography of his prints – the physical trace of Suzuki’s interaction with the plate - also suggest his awareness that he too is part of nature’s rhythm.
Edition of 1 - this print is unique.
Hiroyuki Suzuki lives and works in Japan. He has exhibited worldwide from the International Print Triennial in Krakow in Poland to the Janus Museum in Denmark and takes his inspiration for his compositions from nature.
Suzuki has been a long-standing supporter of Northern Print since an exchange project visit in 1999 and here Northern Print's Director Anna Wilkinson, described her visit to his studio in the mountains near Nagoya:
“It seemed to me the making of his garden and traditional wooden building was an integral part of his work. The cool mountain water to drink, the ponds and fish to eat and the wild plants he had collected on his walls and given space to in his garden”.

We are members of Own Art, a national scheme funded by Arts Council England that makes it easy and affordable for everyone to buy contemporary art.
Own Art allows you to spread the cost of a purchase of an original artwork over 10 months with an interest free loan. With so many works of art to choose from, you could start a collection of your own today from as little as £10 per month.
To help explain the scheme, here are our answers to some frequently asked questions:

How much can I borrow?
Own Art loans allow you to borrow from as little as £100 up to a maximum of £2,500 for the purchase of works of art by living artists.
