Bridget was commissioned to make this print for Northern Print's Glossary exhibition in reference to the second venue in the tour, Gateshead Library. She took as her starting point an A3 book made in the 1950s by a local man, Frank Kojay, and held in the library’s local history collection. Handwritten as a sort of newspaper (it would now be recognised as a blog), the book is full of newspaper cuttings and ephemera based on observations of the Derwent Valley. Bridget says, “I set out to follow in Kojay’s footsteps and make my own journey through the Derwent Valley… I wanted to convey with a few visual and symbolic elements, the sense that for hundreds of years man and nature have shaped this multi-layered landscape.”
