Patrick (Pat) Chapman MBE MA FRSA

"As a past studio user and course participant as well as a regular visitor to exhibitions and events I know the positive impact Northern Print has on artists and the wider community. I was delighted to become a trustee of Northern Print so that I could support this work."
- Pat Chapman MBE MA FRSA

Now retired, Pat’s career followed an interesting route from civil engineering to the arts and education, via senior roles in the civil service. Until June 2023 he was the Vice Principal at The Northern School of Art where he led major capital projects that saw expansion of the Hartlepool campus, a new campus in Middlesbrough and the development of the commercial Northern Studios which remains the only large film and TV production facility in the region.

Pat was the founding director of the international Northern Festival of Illustration which has seen more than 200,000 visitors to its Hartlepool home and opened-up new opportunities to view and participate in creative activity. The festival, which partnered with Northern Print, reflects his commitment to the arts to enrich individuals and communities.

He served two terms on Arts Council England’s North Area Council, and is also chair of governors at a local school.

He was awarded an MBE for services to the creative industries and higher education in 2024.
