Mel Whewell

"Northern Print is an institution! For over 30 years it’s been both a home and studio space for printmakers. It’s a welcoming space where, during annual events like the Late Shows, people often discover printmaking for the first time. Being a Trustee is my way of supporting everyone who looks at a handmade print in wonder."
- Mel Whewell

Mel is an experienced higher education research unit manager who, until July 2025, supported staff and students through her work at Newcastle University’s Institute for Creative Arts Practice. It was in this role that Mel first worked alongside Anna, and the wider Northern Print team, on two iterations of the International Print Biennale.

Having also worked as Principal Officer - Collections Management for Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums (now North East Museums) Mel is also keen to help Northern Print make its diverse collections more accessible to printmakers, studio users and the wider public.

Mel joined the Northern Print Board in 2023.
