An exhibition of contemporary artists and Illustrators for The Northern Festival of Illustration

This exhibition looks at the dual role printmaking plays for artists / illustrators and invites a selected group of contemporary illustrators / printmakers to look at the relationship between their commissioned work and self-generated work.

What is the energy and idea flow between the two strands of work, are they indeed two strands at all or meanderings along the same path? Having developed an individual style, which works represent the ‘real’ them?

Each artist was asked to show work made to commission, as an illustrator, and also work in print that has been produced as part of their own enquiry or self-generated project.

The exhibition presents the works alongside an interview with each artist exploring their working methods and thought-processes and the relationship between the two ways of working.

This exhibition is part of the Northern Festival of Illustration (1 June – 15 September) Organised and developed by The Northern School of Art, the festival features many internationally renowned illustrators as well as a programme of workshops, exhibitions, events and a pop up studio
