What you'll learn

Week one

The first session will take you through all the starting points for lino cutting and printing. Choosing and adapting an image, transferring an image to the lino block, using the cutting tools and how to ink up your lino block to create a single colour embossed image.

Week two

The second session will focus on expanding and refining the techniques learnt in the first session. This will include inking techniques to create multi coloured prints using one block, layering colours using more than one lino block, creating tonal effects through cutting techniques and developing your printing skills including preparing your paper and ways to register prints to produce a good quality print.

What will you achieve?

- Excellent understanding of the basics of this process – allowing you to develop your own printmaking practice and a deeper appreciation of other artists work in print.

- Practical experience of the essential tools and materials used in the process.

- Sufficient skills and confidence to join Northern Print and use the studio to develop your work.

- An edition / small number of prints you have printed and the block you can continue to work on and print from.

Participant Feedback

"Northern Print is a lovely place to come into - it feels immediately welcoming and full of potential. Helen was an excellent facilitator, the course was extremely well organised and it was great having all materials provided. I learnt a lot - quite a lot about choosing a different image next time!"
