Electric Press Zone Session Booking
You can use this press for multiple techniques. When you book this zone you will now only have access to the press, the glass work surface and the hand wash sink. The paper soak sink is being taken out of use. If you require damp paper for your process please bring a piece of plastic with you to store it in, water sprays will be provided. You will have blotters and drying boards if you require them in your area and staff will move these at the end of your session. Please also let staff know if you need another area, e.g. darkroom or will need to use another area; such as the platemaking room, when you book as these areas have limited capacity. Please see the list of additional items you will need to bring with you on Page 7 of the 'Information for Studio Users' document which has been emailed to you.
If you require the darkroom as part of your session, please call the studio on 0191 2617000 between 10am and 5pm to reserve it for your sole use. Please do this before booking online to ensure that both spaces are available at the same time.
Morning Session is 10am-1pm
Afternoon Session 2pm-5pm
Please note that at the present time the studio will be alternating open times for members so one week we'll be open Tues, Wed, Thurs 10am-5pm, then the following week it will be Thurs 10am-9pm, Fri and Sat 10am-5pm. We will update you if these times/days change.
We are not increasing the cost of studio sessions despite the financial pressures of reduced capacity. This is why we are asking for payment upon booking a session and cancellation fees will apply as normal. This means that if you cancel your session with 48 hours notice or more you will receive a credit note for an alternative session. No credit will be given if notice is given less that 48 hours before your session begins.
Thinking of buying an original print priced at £100 or above*?
We are members of Own Art, a national scheme funded by Arts Council England that makes it easy and affordable for everyone to buy contemporary art.
Own Art allows you to spread the cost of a purchase of an original artwork over 10 months with an interest free loan. With so many works of art to choose from, you could start a collection of your own today from as little as £10 per month.
To help explain the scheme, here are our answers to some frequently asked questions:
What can I buy?
Own Art loans are available in our gallery for the purchase of contemporary art and craft by living artists. That means you can choose more or less anything you want from paintings, prints, drawings and sculpture, to glassware, ceramics, jewellery and textiles.
How much can I borrow?
Own Art loans allow you to borrow from as little as £100 up to a maximum of £2,500 for the purchase of works of art by living artists.
How do I apply?
After you've found something in our gallery or online that you love, speak with a member of staff who can talk you through your options on 0191 2617000. You are able to pay a deposit with Own Art to lower your monthly costs although this is not necessary and the loan can cover framing if you wish. The best option is to visit the gallery if you would like to proceed with an Own Art application where a member of our team will take you through the loan application process. You will need to bring proof of ID, address and signature - a driving licence is ideal or a utility bill and credit or debit card. The application process usually takes 10-15 mins following which you'll get an instant decision so you can take the work home on the same day.
For more information visit the Own Art website.
