Making a Mark with Newcastle East

06 February - 04 May 2024

Background

Northern Print is a place for everyone to explore their creativity, express themselves and above all have access to great printmaking experiences. We wanted to reach out to our local community and to help overcome some of the socio-economic barriers experienced disproportionately by members of Newcastle's east end community, our ambition was to offer a series of completely free courses and drop-in sessions covering a variety of printmaking techniques nurturing transferable skills, and making space for connection, integration, and friendship.

Fundraising

The project was delivered with funding from a successful crowdfund campaign.

"This has been a wonderfully uplifting project for everyone at Northern Print. The initial support given by so many through the crowdfunding campaign was a real boost and showed how much people valued and supported Northern Print. We are hugely grateful for all the contributions given for this project. It was a much-needed galvanising force in the challenging period post covid and helped the organisation to rebuild and reach out.

The workshops have brought so much vitality to the studio and I am looking forward to seeing the many and varied prints that have been created as part of this project – as well as the new connections made that I hope will continue into the future."

This project is part-funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund
The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is a central pillar of the UK government’s Levelling Up agenda and provides £2.6 billion of funding for local investment by March 2025. The North of Tyne Combined Authority

Crowdfund North of Tyne

"This is to say a big thank you for a wonderful day on Tuesday. You were so supportive and this helped all the different members of our group to be actively involved in the process of learning to use Letterpress. We really appreciated the day and the work that went into raising the funds so that we could experience what is on offer at Northern Print." - Skimstone Arts
