Solar plate (also known as a photopolymer plate) is a relatively new etching process that does not require plates to be bitten in acid. The process uses ultraviolet light and a positive image on clear film, to create the image on the plate. The plate is then inked up and printed like an etching. The technique is used extensively by artists wishing to take high quality photographic images into printmaking. Hand drawn images can also be used.  

The course will show you how to modify and adapt an image to make it ready to expose onto the plate. You will then be shown how to make the plate, ink it and print it. This is a course which focuses on learning and developing the techniques and methods to create a solar plate print. 

This process can create a printing plate that is extremely versatile and hard wearing. This course will be of interest to all but particularly suited to those working with photographic and digital images.
