Frances Arnold creates abstract prints inspired by vast landscapes and urban architecture that playfully alter perception.
Arnold combines her love of drawing with the physicality of printmaking to convey a textured, pastel-like quality in her reductive screenprints. Her minimalist prints hold a fine balance between control and imperfection, containment and release. She is fascinated by convergence of multiple perspectives; shifting the eye between illusions of space and the material reality of ink and paper. Hand-drawn and architectural lines hold textured, block colour in geometric forms. Her prints explore the image in constant flux.
Arnold graduated from Newcastle University in 2009 with a BA in Fine Art and lives in Northumberland, UK.
She has exhibited since 2005 in a number of independent shows, print fairs and residency exhibitions in the UK, Norway and Sweden. Highlights include, Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, Northern Print, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, USF Verftet and PrintFest.

Thinking of buying an original print priced at £100 or above*?
We are members of Own Art, a national scheme funded by Arts Council England that makes it easy and affordable for everyone to buy contemporary art.
Own Art allows you to spread the cost of a purchase of an original artwork over 10 months with an interest free loan. With so many works of art to choose from, you could start a collection of your own today from as little as £10 per month.
To help explain the scheme, here are our answers to some frequently asked questions:
What can I buy?
Own Art loans are available in our gallery for the purchase of contemporary art and craft by living artists. That means you can choose more or less anything you want from paintings, prints, drawings and sculpture, to glassware, ceramics, jewellery and textiles.
How much can I borrow?
Own Art loans allow you to borrow from as little as £100 up to a maximum of £2,500 for the purchase of works of art by living artists.
How do I apply?
After you've found something in our gallery or online that you love, speak with a member of staff who can talk you through your options on 0191 2617000. You are able to pay a deposit with Own Art to lower your monthly costs although this is not necessary and the loan can cover framing if you wish. The best option is to visit the gallery if you would like to proceed with an Own Art application where a member of our team will take you through the loan application process. You will need to bring proof of ID, address and signature - a driving licence is ideal or a utility bill and credit or debit card. The application process usually takes 10-15 mins following which you'll get an instant decision so you can take the work home on the same day.
