Relief Collagraph: Online Course

Regular price £40.00 £0.00
Tax included.

Collagraph is a deceptively simple printing process that allows incredibly sophisticated images to be created. The process begins by making a textured plate from a thin mountboard base where a variety of materials are applied to create an intricately textured printing plate.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners to intermediate level.

Course content

Join our outreach artist Colette Whittington for this two-part online workshop exploring the versatile and exciting process of collagraph printmaking. Discover the basic principles of printmaking using mark-making and collage techniques to create your own unique artwork.

In the first session Colette will guide you through the process of making a textured printing plate on card. Then in the second she will demonstrate how to ink up the plate in creative ways and pull a hand printed print, all at your kitchen table. Collagraph is low-fi process requiring only simple everyday materials that are transformed through the printing process. This is a workshop guaranteed to make you look at the materials you encounter every day in a whole new light!

As the online sessions are live you can ask questions, share your progress and enjoy the company of other participants as they learn and experiment along with you at the same time.

Upon completion of this course you will be able to take out a studio membership if you wish and following a simple induction will be able to use the electric press to print your collagraphs.

Own Art Logo

Thinking of buying an original print priced at £100 or above*?

We are members of Own Art, a national scheme funded by Arts Council England that makes it easy and affordable for everyone to buy contemporary art.

Own Art allows you to spread the cost of a purchase of an original artwork over 10 months with an interest free loan.  With so many works of art to choose from, you could start a collection of your own today from as little as £10 per month.

To help explain the scheme, here are our answers to some frequently asked questions:

What can I buy?

Own Art loans are available in our gallery for the purchase of contemporary art and craft by living artists.  That means you can choose more or less anything you want from paintings, prints, drawings and sculpture, to glassware, ceramics, jewellery and textiles.

How much can I borrow?

Own Art loans allow you to borrow from as little as £100 up to a maximum of £2,500 for the purchase of works of art by living artists.

How do I apply?

After you've found something in our gallery or online that you love, speak with a member of staff who can talk you through your options on 0191 2617000. You are able to pay a deposit with Own Art to lower your monthly costs although this is not necessary and the loan can cover framing if you wish.  The best option is to visit the gallery if you would like to proceed with an Own Art application where a member of our team will take you through the loan application process.  You will need to bring proof of ID, address and signature - a driving licence is ideal or a utility bill and credit or debit card.  The application process usually takes 10-15 mins following which you'll get an instant decision so you can take the work home on the same day.

For more information visit the Own Art website.
