Lake District 3

'As the seasons unfold, I find myself continually collecting things. I live and work in Whitby and walk along the cliff paths, through parks and woodlands. I like the smell of wet grass, the pattern of pine needles on the path and the crunch of pebbles as I search for treasure on an incoming tide' - Effie Burns

Artist

Effie has a BA in Glass with Ceramics and an MA in Art in Context. She established her first studio in Newcastle in 1999. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and prizes have included the prestigious Coburg Prize for Contemporary Glass and the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust award.

Effie was awarded a Northern Print bursary to explore printmaking within her practice in 2021/22. She created a collection of beautiful and unique prints during her time working in the studio, the prints are like a visual diary, inspired by objects from nature gathered during her walks exploring the landscapes and seascapes of Whitby and the Lake District.
