Connect with Printmaking

We are now open to the public and to our members, however if you would rather access Northern Print from a distance right now, here are a few ways of doing so...

Northern Print MembersMembers

Over the last year, we have arranged weekly Printmakers Coffee Breaks on Zoom where some of our members showed us their work and were able to ask technical and printmaking materials supply questions as well as collaborating on group projects and generally socialising and catching up.

Now the studio is open again for studio members to book in and get technical support where needed. The staff are also still available to offer one-to-one technical support to those who are shielding and unable to come into the studio, this can be via telephone, Zoom or Skype, just contact us to book this in

During lockdown we sent out a regular members lockdown newsletter via email and whether you are a member or not you are welcome to read the bulletins using these links (although please be aware that projects and one-to-one technical assistance are for members only.)

Social MediaWider Community: Social Media

You can catch up with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and participate on our #printmakerspost hashtag where you can post images of the project that you're currently creating. We are reposting a selection of those images each week so it's a good way of feeling inspired and also of making new contacts.

You may also want to join our open Facebook group Northern Print Share and Chat which is open to all printmakers and you don't have to be a Northern Print member to join.  We hope that it will become a friendly online place to hang out, for you to post images of your work, discuss printmaking and ask questions with some light moderation / admin from us. Just press the button on the banner to request to join and we look forward to seeing you in there.

In 2015 Northern Print led a project called Scrum Down: Print Forward which currently still holds the Guinness World Record for the longest linocut print ever made at 33.51m. You can find out all about this complex and audacious project on the dedicated Facebook page here.

Wider Community: Northern Print on Film

While you have some time on your hands, you might want to watch some of our films online.  We have a film page on our website here where you can find:

  • More about who we are and what we do
  • Antony Gormley's reflections on printmaking
  • More about our Guinness World Record breaking linocut project
  • Short films on artists that participated in our Glossary exhibition - each artist used a different printmaking process so it is a good overview into a rannge of methods. Artists include Stephen Chambers, Rachael Clewlow, Tom Hammick, Bridget Jones, Katherine Jones, Julian Meredith and Hilary Paynter.
