Woodcut and Chine Collé: Online & In Studio Combined Course

Regular price £70.00 £0.00
Tax included.

Discover the expressive qualities of this traditional, simple relief printing method using a combination of soft plywood and lightweight coloured papers. Working with artist Joanna Bourne, you will be shown how to cut an image into the ply, print it and develop the print using different Korean papers which are applied onto the image under the ink.

This course will take place over 4 sessions, three online and the final session in the print studio at Northern Print.

Course content

This course is suitable for complete beginners or those wishing to refresh their knowledge. It will enable you to cut your woodblock over a few weeks at home then come into Northern Print for your final session to print it and learn about adding colour. Please note that owing to Covid-19 safety measures we are limiting the amount of people who are able to print in our studio at any one time which is why there are three final session dates to choose from. These will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

As the online sessions are live you can ask questions, share your progress and enjoy the company of other participants as they learn and experiment along with you at the same time.

Upon completion of this course you will be able to take out a studio membership if you wish and following a simple induction will be able to use the Albion press to print your woodblocks.

Read about membership here.

Own Art Logo

Thinking of buying an original print priced at £100 or above*?

We are members of Own Art, a national scheme funded by Arts Council England that makes it easy and affordable for everyone to buy contemporary art.

Own Art allows you to spread the cost of a purchase of an original artwork over 10 months with an interest free loan.  With so many works of art to choose from, you could start a collection of your own today from as little as £10 per month.

To help explain the scheme, here are our answers to some frequently asked questions:

What can I buy?

Own Art loans are available in our gallery for the purchase of contemporary art and craft by living artists.  That means you can choose more or less anything you want from paintings, prints, drawings and sculpture, to glassware, ceramics, jewellery and textiles.

How much can I borrow?

Own Art loans allow you to borrow from as little as £100 up to a maximum of £2,500 for the purchase of works of art by living artists.

How do I apply?

After you've found something in our gallery or online that you love, speak with a member of staff who can talk you through your options on 0191 2617000. You are able to pay a deposit with Own Art to lower your monthly costs although this is not necessary and the loan can cover framing if you wish.  The best option is to visit the gallery if you would like to proceed with an Own Art application where a member of our team will take you through the loan application process.  You will need to bring proof of ID, address and signature - a driving licence is ideal or a utility bill and credit or debit card.  The application process usually takes 10-15 mins following which you'll get an instant decision so you can take the work home on the same day.

For more information visit the Own Art website.
